Thank-You note in the mail today!

E-mail VS Snail Mail

I guess it was inevitable with the "birth" of the internet but I never gave it a thought until I got something in the mail that has become almost obsolete today.  Someone sent me a "Thank you" note!

I can remember my mother making me "sit down and write a "thank you card" to family friends, aunts, cousins, anyone really that gave me a gift, or did something "nice" for me.  It was something that had to be done, and there was no excuse for not doing it!

One of my teachers in grade school taught my class how to write  what she called "Bread and Butter" letters.  They were just simple notes that you sent to someone that had opened their homes to us for a visit in which "food" was served.  Again, no excuse was acceptable for not sending them, it was expected, it was just a common courtesy following a visit to a friends home.

Somewhere along the way we have forgotten the importance of "thanking" people for "gifting" us with their time, or perhaps some small item that they think we need or would like.  I am not talking about major gifts like automobiles, or boats or anything like that, but I mean the little things like a copy of a picture that was taken of them, or perhaps a small trinket of some sort.

I think it is a shame that we have stopped this practice that at one time was almost as natural as breathing!

The internet has brought us a lot of things that have improved our lives, but it is to bad that the internet also seems to have brought to an end that age old custom of showing our appreciation for the little things that make life nicer and easier.

By the way, "Thanks" for taking the time to read this, and for "listening" to us on the air!
