"PURPLE" & Gold!
Brett Favre has retired three times already in his historic NFL career but no matter what, there will have to be a fourth. Just recently, yesterday as a matter of fact, Favre inked a 2-year/$25MM deal to become the starting quarterback for the Minnesota Vikings. It may come a year later than Favre might have wanted but none the less it will be one of the best chances Favre will have to make one last Super Bowl run with his last ending in a thrilling 23-20 overtime defeat in sup-zero temperatures back in '07 against the New York Giants. Brett Favre who holds the all-time record for most touchdowns in NFL history with 464 arrived in Minnesota yesterday afternoon just in time to practice with his new teamates. The news comes as a shock to some, and not a big shock to some Vikings who were close to the situation. The story broke on Monday morning that one unnamed Viking said, "I'm telling you it's already done," according to Jay Glazer. "Right after the Indy game (first preseason game). I don't think anyone here doesn't think that." Another undisclosed player said to Glazer, "I don't know if it's done, but I think he'll be in by the third preseason game." Then many news rooms began to blow up as the news broke that Favre would become a Viking pending a physical. Then on Tuesday afternoon Favre was on the practice field in Eden Prairie, MN with his new teamates. Favre said the decision was made alot easier when his 10 year old daughter told him she wanted to see him win one more Super Bowl. Sage Rosenfels, former Houston Texan, who was brought in to Minnesota to compete for the starting job with Tavaris Jackson, the guy who got a bulk of the starts last year for the division winning Vikings said, "For me, personally, obviously this wasn't what I was hoping for. I tried to get traded here, (Minnesota) and got traded here and got traded here. When the team needs me this year, I'm gonna be ready. I'm gonna play playoff calaber football." He went on to say "If he has questions for me I would be more than happy to help him." as if Brett would need anymore help than he already does seeing that Favre already knows the playbook better than Sage and Tavaris since it is very similar to what Favre had in Green Bay. Jackson also commented by saying, "It's not a good feeling. I'm just taking it day-by-day and trying to get better (as a player)." Nick Barnett former teamate of Favre also commented by saying that he would not be afraid to hit Brett. Favre completed 343 passed last year for New York in his 18th NFL season while throwing 22 TD's and interceptions each. Favre will now suit up wearing the "Purple" and Gold, not the Green and Gold as everyone might know him as. Our first look at Favre comes this Friday when he is expected to start at home against Kansas City. The nations first look will come just 10 days later when Favre and the Vikes play at Houston on Monday Night football on ESPN. And of course we can't go without mentioning a Monday Night matchup in Minneapolis against Green Bay on October 5th. The first meeting between Favre and his old troops since leaving from Green Bay.
