Perfidy \pur-fi-dee\ noun
1. deliberate breach of faith or trust; faithlessness; treachery
2. an act or instance of faithlessness or treachery.
Perfidy surfaced in the English language in the 16th century from the Latin perfidia meaning "falsehood, treachery," from perfidus "faithless," which comes from the phrase -per fidem decipere- or "to deceive through trustingness."
