Cahoots \kuh-hoots\ noun

1. partnership; league

2. in collusion

From 1829 American English cahoots is said to be perhaps from French cahute meaning "cabin, hut" However most sources in the U.S. credit it to the French cohorte a word in use in the South and West with a sense of "companions, confederates."
