Diet Tip #3: Snack Like a Skinny Girl

The diet pros have tried them all—and these are their top ten best-tasting snacks to keep in your cabinets, office drawer, car console, or gym bag. They say to eat two or three of them a day to ward off hunger and keep your metabolism cranking.

1. Gnu Flavor & Fiber bars, like the Cinnamon Raisin ones for 130 calories or the Chocolate Brownie Bar for 140 calories.

2. Lärabars, about 190 to 220 calories each. The Cherry Pie and Coconut Cream Pie bars are especially good—just be sure to cut a bar in two and save half for another time.

3. Polly-O String Cheese or Kraft String-Ums, 80 calories each. It's the easiest cheese to stash in a handbag.

4. An ounce (about two tablespoons) of hummus with pepper slices or celery sticks, 85 calories.

5. Vitalicious VitaMuffins or VitaTops in banana nut, triple chocolate chunk, and fudgy peanut-butter-chip flavors. They're seriously delicious, high in fiber and protein—and only 100 calories.

6. Food Should Taste Good Multigrain chips, 140 calories an ounce. They taste just like tortilla chips.

7. Pop Chips,120 calories per ounce.

8. Beef, ostrich, salmon, or tuna jerky. "Jerky is great if you have an intense craving for salty," says hungry-girl.com blogger Lisa Lillien. "Don't think that it's too NASCAR." And Lauren Slayton, nutritionist and founder of foodtrainers.net admits that her clients at first wrinkle their noses at the idea of ostrich or salmon, but then they have a taste and forget their misgivings. Look for Ostrim Beef or Ostrich (50 calories an ounce) or SnackMasters Ahi Tuna or Salmon (80 calories an ounce).

9. No-fat yogurts from Stonyfield Farm (120 calories) or Chobani (140 calories) or Dannon Fruit on the Bottom (140 calories) or Dannon Light & Fit (80 calories).

10. Campbell's Soup at Hand. Nuke it for less than three minutes and drink. The best are: Chicken and Stars (70 calories), Vegetable Beef (70 calories), Chicken with Mini Noodles (80 calories), or Classic Tomato (120 calories). Plus, studies show that people who ate soup before a meal ate fewer total calories.
