The company did recruit continuously for Marketing Representatives. The company hired 1 person as the result of that effort.
Title of the full-time jobs filled: Marketing Representative
Dates positions filled: 2/15/11
Most of the 13 applicants were the result of recruitment through the Wisconsin Job Service, which serves all of Wisconsin and is accessible to anyone with Internet capability, or through the ad placed with the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association, which shares openings with the National Association of Broadcasters and sends a PDF of openings to state educators.
Sources also used were the CUB RADIO website, on-air ads on WCUB and WLTU.
Additional recruitment sources include Cub’s two radio stations, two Wisconsin Broadcasters Association Job Fairs, and the stations website.
Conversations were held with the 13 applicants who offered resumes at the January and June Job Fairs. No hires were made as a result.
Participating Station Attendees: Lee Davis, General Manager and President, attended both job fairs.
Dates of Job Fairs – 1/26/11 and 6/22/11.
Ads ran on WCUB and WLTU from 1/1/11 to 1/25/11, inviting job seekers to attend the career fair, and see what opportunities might be available to them. We ran another series of ads from 6/6/11 to 6/21/11, inviting job seekers to attend that career fair, and see what opportunities might be available to them.
Lee Davis attended a workshop at the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association on January 26th, 2011, entitled “Avoiding Discrimination in Employment Terminations”. He then attended a second seminar on June 22nd, 2011, entitled “Compliance with the FCC’s EEO Nondiscrimination and Outreach Regulations – Part 4”. Both of these seminars were in conjunction with the Wisconsin Broadcasters 2011 Conventions and the Job Fairs.
Scholarship ads were also run from January 17th through February 20th, announcing the opportunity for students in our listening area to compete for a national $7,000.00 scholarship, sponsored by SESAC and the International Broadcasters Idea Bank, and Cub Radio, Inc.
Ads promoting the Wisconsin Broadcasters Scholarship Program were run on WCUB and WLTU from September 6, 2010 to October 14, 2010; the stations pay $100.00 payments every two years to participate. Our President and General Manager, Lee Davis, served as a screening judge of all applicants for both years.
Letters were sent to 12 recruitment sources and women’s organizations on 7/20/11, informing them that we have, from time to time, employment openings on WCUB and WLTU radio.
Cub Radio provided an internship experience for Craig Majewski at Silver Lake College. Craig Majewski began his internship at Cub Radio on Monday, February 21st, 2011. He was working on a bachelor’s degree in theology at Silver Lake.
He finished up his internship in late April, 2011. The goal of Craig, his advisor, Silver Lake, and the radio stations was to give him a rounded education in radio. He wanted that to help his theology degree become more effective for him. He had had some experience in working in studios, and thought it would be important to him for his future.
Craig was available to the radio station at whatever time we could use him in the morning, but had to conclude by 12 Noon for his schedule. When he worked in general radio station duties, we scheduled him in about 9am until Noon. He worked on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, essentially. When we used him in news, which we did for several weeks, he arrived earlier in the morning, as early as 5:30am or 6am, and stayed with us until approximately Noon.
We worked him in virtually every department of the radio station. He worked in the business area, answering phones, transferring calls, helping people who call the station to solve problems. He worked in the traffic area with Jenny to learn how we schedule ads. He worked in management with me to spend time with me to find out how the manager functions, what the job is, and how to coordinate activities of the staff. He worked in the news area with Bryan Lundberg, our News Director and he spent quite a bit of time with our Program Director Dean Lester, and with the production staff. He did production work, he did on-air news work, he did on-air voice tracking, and got a great deal of experience in all of those areas.
His work was very well done. The staff welcomed him and was glad to have him with us, and he provided quite a bit of extra help to us at our station.
After the internship concluded, I met with Jan Algozine from Silver Lake and Craig. We evaluated that internship, and he asked for another internship in late 2011. In the business area, as he has decided to seek a double-major, theology and business.
He started his new internship here at Cub Radio the week of September 12th, 2011. During this early part of his internship, he is playing soccer for Silver Lake, and his hours are somewhat limited. He does plan on working Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10am until he either has go due to education commitments at school or extra-curricular activities, or we reach four hours. Our goal is to keep him working no more than 4 hours a day, 3 days a week, which would give him about 12 hours a week.
