How Rich People Are Getting Their Jewelry Fix

Not even a pandemic can get between rich people and their bling.
According to the New York Post, New York City jewelers have been making house calls in order to sell customers their sparkly accessories in a COVID-safe way. And that extra effort has seriously boosted sales.
“Our sales are up 300 percent since the pandemic started,” high-end celebrity jeweler Michel Piranesi tells The Post.
Over the past few months, he’s traveled all over the country to sell his luxury wares. As for why the rich are still buying bling in a pandemic, Piranesi says that buying jewelry is “like buying coffee” for them: “People got stuck in their homes and they just wanted to cheer up, so they bought jewelry."
Piranesi adds that everything going on socially and politically also made people buy more. “A lot of people with money don’t know what’s going to happen… they think a crisis can happen overnight,” he says. “They buy diamonds just in case. With a piece of art or building, you can’t put it in your pocket.”
