New Meaning to Drinking & Driving

One man took thirsty Thursday to the next level when he hopped onto a tanker trunk full of wine and helped himself to the supply.

California Highway Patrol Officer Thomas Olsen explained to news site Modesto Bee, that on Tuesday, 39-year-old Gabriel Moreno was driving north on Highway 99 when he lured a Cherokee Freight Lines rig lugging a tank of red wine to pull over under the guise that "something was wrong with the vehicle."

Moreno then pulled over in front of the trucker and proceeded to exit his vehicle and run to the back of the tank wearing only his underwear. Olsen said, "That’s when the driver realized, 'This isn’t right,'" and got back on the road, but not before "the gentleman jumps on the trailer, which has a ladder on the back, and gets a ride."

While hitching a ride, Moreno unscrewed a valve and began gulping down in the alcoholic grape juice. It's not until about a mile down the road that the driver noticed a gauge on the dashboard showing the truck losing weight and pulled over.

Olsen said when the vehicle stopped, Moreno "jumped down and placed himself beneath the belly of the truck and was just indulging in the wine. He was lying on the ground and doing snow angels, basically, as the wine was pouring down on him."

The man then ran away from the scene causing many to call in reports of seeing a man covered in blood, which was actually red wine.

Moreno was booked for felony vandalism and misdemeanor driving on a suspended license. He was released a day later, on Wednesday, due to the state's zero-bail order.

According to the site, Cherokee reported that the tanker lost around 1,000 gallons of wine.
